He was born on January 31st, 1996 and has been known to feature renowned vocalists on several occasions and, together, they have been able to churn out hits that have set the radio waves all over the world ablaze. He came into limelight with his album Skeleton Move which won an AFRIMMA AWARD in 2018 as Best Artist/Group in the African Electro Category. most important achievement came sometime in the middle of 2020 when his song “Jerusalema” featuring popular South African vocalist Nomcebo Zikode, produced in November, 2019, became the theme song of the popular #JerusalemaChallenge or #JerusalemaDanceChallenge.
This challenge, which was started by a group of individuals in Angola, sparked a worldwide fire in which people of different races, religious backgrounds, economic classes and political affiliations actively partook in. The challenge involves moving in rhythm to the beats of the song “Jerusalema” while eating from a plate of food or drinking from a glass of wine, water or beverage. The whole concept behind the challenge is to portray a life of happiness and satisfaction.
The very act of dancing while eating infers that life is meant to enjoyed no matter your circumstance or situation. Of course, there has been both praise and criticism of this challenge. While many people praise the concept as fun and entertaining, some others believe that the challenge itself shows that the participants of this challenge have no regard for their health and no respect for food! However, this latter category of critics is significantly few compared to former, whose praise for the challenge is overwhelming.
Naturally, this challenge shot Master KG’s fame and popularity through the roof as his followership and fanbase increased exponentially! Soon enough, a remix was birthed as the talent music producer teamed up with famous Nigerian Reggae and Dancehall artist Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode. Their combined talents and teamwork were rewarded with an enviable spot on the US Billboard Charts and also earned them a top spot on the UK Afrobeat Singles Chart for about a fortnight.
Apart from winning the AFRIMMA 2018 Award for Best Electro and Dance, Master KG has also won the SABC Summer Song 2018 for Skeleton Move, the Limpopo Music Award for Best House Single for Skeleton Move and the AFRIMMA Award for Best Male Southern African Artist in 2019.
